So my local u-pick farm has tomatoes for $1, up to a 5 gallon bucket. Yep, whole 5 gallon bucket for $1. I am going to be blanching and skinning and chopping tomatoes for HOURS. They also had u-pick strawberrys for $1/lb. I just froze a ton of strawberrys for future use!
**So My tomatoes yielded the equivilent of 21 cans...I diced, pureed and crushed and froze in 16 oz bags, I do not know how to can. DD got to puree and hand me the tomatoes and she had a blast.

I'm not near any U-pick farms, but sometimes if I go to the farmer's market at the end of the day-usually at noon-1pm on Saturday, I can get good buys on whatever is in season and they have a lot left over-also if it rains that day because not many peole come out and if the picked produce gets wet it needs to be used soon. I did get a flat of strawberries for $10 at the height of the season and made freezer jam and froze a lot of them for later use.
