I have a young teen that is very good nature. I'm having problems with one of his friends, who is a loser. This friend is allowed to smoke pot with parents approval for they sell it. He is a thief and is starting to teach my son to break into houses now. I'm at the end of my rope. I am a single mother and his father has a new family and doesn't give him the time of day or support him.

He's a young teen, you are the parent, tell him he's not allowed to hang out with this kid, if he continues all privilages like phone, computer, free time hanging with friends are GONE..

I'm working on that issue since, the cops won't help. I'm going to the top to get rid of the child but, my son will have to pay too for his choices.

what about a "scared straight" tactic? any visit a jail for a day opportunities?

I have tried that. I am know in the community as a hard worker. I know the law enforcement here that is what has helped in some ways. I think not having a social network or male person around is an issue.

I have had my son arrested to see I mean business. I don't just sit and watch. I have limited resources in this small town.

He's not allowed to hang out with this friend, police need to be called on the parents of this friend, and you need to step in and discuss the issues you are having with everything going on. Nip it in the bud before he's too far down the wrong path.

Maybe the friend needs some guidence. I mean look at his living situation. It's not his fault he's been raised so poorly that's all he knows. My boys had a friend like that whose parents where just waste of life and their kids were going down that same road. Maybe talk to the kid plan some activities or something lay down ground rules. I would make deals with him like for example no weed smoking or any trouble for a whole and we will do something like going to pizza hut or to a movie or something. Sometimes all they want and need is a little attention and not negative attention. I told my twins friend if he went to school everyday for a month and did his work and brought home good grades I would reward him. It worked he does good in school no more weed no more trouble nothing he wants a better life than his parents. Show him there are better things in life. Sometimes they just need to have their heads turned and have something to look forward to. I mean it's something to think about. It doesn't always work. If not then call the CPS have the kid removed his parents are damging this poor child. He's gonna be in jail before to long.

Any Uncles on either side that might be able to help? I was also going to suggest to turn the kid in but it seems your trying that route . Does he have a grandma that maybe your could send him to for few months just to break up the relationship? Good Luck
